A heart for guests
Those with a perfect command of espresso
machines can delight their guests with latte art.
Patterns, such as a heart or leaf, are achieved
through the contrast of milk with the brown crema,
and through special pouring techniques.
Heart shape
For this, you will need the creamy, fine-pored foam,
which arises while frothing milk. Quickly pour the milk
foam into the espresso crema, and then slow down
again until a white spot of foam becomes visible. Remain
in the centre of the spot and move the milk spout with
a short and fast motion to the rim of the cup.
Leaf shape
In this case, the milk foam should be somewhat finer and
more fluid. Begin by pouring the milk foam at the far rim
of the cup. Then spread it with larger, then smaller shakes
across the crema. Finally, draw back the foam from the
front rim of the cup directly through the centre of the leaf.
